Supplies needed:

  • 9”X 5” ~ Yellow Cotton – Moon

  • 4 ½” X 4 “ ~ Striped Flannel – Hat

  • Scrap Piece of quilt batting or Felt – Hat

  • 1 Pin Back

  • Beads for eye and embellishment

  • Air Erasable Marker = AEM

  • Stuffing

  • White, Red Berol Pencil

  • Brown Pigma Fabric marker

Tools: Open Toed Foot, Turn-it-all, Forceps, Stuffing Fork

Begin by making a template of the pattern pieces.  Fold Yellow fabric in half WRST.  Trace Moon face onto wrong side of fabric using an AEM.   The trace line is also the sewing line.  Sew, leaving an opening as indicated.  Cut leaving a 1/8” SA.  Clip at bridge of nose and under nose.  Turn to right side using a turn-it-all and forceps.

Use the forceps to gently push out the nose.  Use a small stuffing fork to get stuffing into the points of the Moon.  Stuff firm ― NOT rock hard!  Exaggerate the cheeks by adding a little more stuffing to that area.  Close opening with a ladder stitch using small and even stitches.  Sculpting the nose is optional!

Decide which side of the face will be used.  Color in the whites of the eye using a white Berol pencil.  Add red color to cheek and lip.  Outline eye area using a brown Pigma Fabric marker.  Sew on a brown or black bead for the eye.

Hat:  Place hat template on folded fabric.  Trace with AEM and cut out.  Fold bottom edge under Ό”.  Cut a piece of felt or quilt batting Ό” wide and long enough to fit along the bottom edge of hat.  Top stitch or glue into place.  WRST sew hat using 1/8” SA.  Turn to right side.  Place hat on moon with seam at the top, pulling the tip of the hat on until it touches the tip of the moon.  Tack in place at the tip and the brim.  Embellish with beads and charms.  Add a pin back and ENJOY!
